Everything Speaks His Name

I live at the base of the Wasatch Mountains, a beautiful backdrop to my life that remains constant, but never looks the same.  There is a bicycle trail in the nearby canyon that that takes me along jagged rock formations, snow-capped slopes, green meadows, waterfalls, wildflowers and thick strands of evergreen trees.

All of it makes me incredibly grateful and reminds me of the One who created it - Everything, from the mountain to the stream, from the valley to the sky; everything, from the meadow to the sea, from the sunlight to the rain - Everything speaks His name. The song is performed by Jessie Clark Funk.

Forever in My Soul

A few years ago at Christmastime, some friends of ours lost a beautiful daughter, who died unexpectedly. I had a conversation with Boyd about a month later. As closely as I can remember, these were his words: “You profess to believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ your whole life. You talk about life after death, and families being together forever, and then something like this happens, and you think, ‘this better be true.’” Boyd continued, “After mustering all the faith I’ve ever had so that I could get through this, I am even more convinced that it’s true. And now the truth is etched into my heart and burned into my soul forever.”

I caught my breath  -- I just knew there was a song. There was a song in those words, and I told him so. He asked, “Will you write it?” And so I did.

Just three months later, my next door neighbor and very close friend, Becky, died in her sleep. She left behind a devoted husband and three beautiful girls, all still at home. After six years, I still miss her, as does her family, and the several hundred people who called her their best friend.

For Boyd and Tamra and Becky and Dave, and for everyone who has lost a loved one, the gospel of Jesus Christ can bring hope and peace. Somehow, joy will always come; surely, like the morning sun. Where You Are

This song is a complete departure for me. I wrote it from my husband’s point of view -- back in the day when he lived more than half of his life out of town. He used to say, “I get homesick driving to the airport.”

In the end, it turned out to be a song that a guy wouldn’t sing at all, so this is sung by Autumn Jones and Linda Urquhart. It’s not a professional recording, and it really needs a country singer, but you’ll get the idea.

Because

I don’t have a lot written about this song -- the words say it all. Because He gave to me everything He had to give, I breathe, I see, I hope, I love, I live.

It is sung by Brian Rhodes. I hope you like the song. :)
